Before you can begin installing your blinds you need to make sure that you have all the necessary equipment to hand. As well as the blind kit you are going to need a screwdriver, an electric drill, a pen or pencil as well as a laser or spirit level. The reason we suggest buying a blind kit is that these come with all the necessary hardware not just for installing the blinds but also for operating them. So what steps will you need to take to ensure that you hang your blinds correctly? In this article we look at the steps you will need to take.
Headrail. This is situated at the top of the blind where the window blind movement tracks are located. Valance - This acts as the covering for the track. The blind's valance can be made out of various materials such as vinyl, aluminum, wood, or fabric. Its durability or strength is determined by the quality of the materials used during its construction.
Other very useful blind accessories are cord connectors. The is especially useful when a blind has several cords, for example a roman blind, which needs to be connected to make one cord. This small discreet bit of kit has apertures at each end and normally comes in 2 parts that can be screwed together. The main pull cord which is thicker than the other cords is inserted into the hole and knotted to prevent it from pulling through the hole. The multitude of cords are inserted into the other hole and are also knotted, the two halves are then joined together to make a single unit. You now have numerous cords going into one hole and only one cord coming out of the other. The cords are connected.
After you have the blinds installed properly you should un-knot the tension chord so that it hangs down properly and then use it to see that the blinds move freely up and down. Hopefully this should happen without the blind coming out of the brackets. If they do move up and down freely now you can fit the closing rod to the blinds. This is very simple to do you just thread the hook at the top of the blinds through the hole in the rod. Now twist the rod in both directions to make sure that the blinds open and close correctly.
